Holiday Card Project

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I look forward to seeing your child bright and early tomorrow morning!

Our class has the opportunity to take part in a holiday card project that is taking place all over the world. Students will create cards and send them out to other classrooms across the world. We will also be receiving cards in the mail from around the world and they will be displayed in the hallway. We will also map the locations from which the cards are sent from. This year the theme is "snow globes." So our holiday cards will reflect snow globes, Texas and Florence Hill Bronco Pride. Please check back frequently to see the holiday cards we've received.  For full project details check out: http://www.projectsbyjen.com/Projects/HCE2012/hce2012.html

Turkeys, Thanksgiving and Thankfulness

Check out our fabulous "Family Turkey Projects!" Students and families did a wonderful job working together to make their terrific turkeys! They are so creative and unique!!!!

This week our theme has been turkeys. We've read books about turkeys, researched about turkeys and wrote about turkeys. Here is our turkey writing displayed in the hallway. Around the writing you will find fact family turkeys. Each turkey uses three numbers to create a fact family with two addition and two subtraction number sentences.

Last but certainly not least we've been talking about Thanksgiving and what it means to be thankful. We have written "I am thankful for..." sentences on leaves and added them to our thankful tree in the hallway. Here is our thankful tree and a few leaves.

This Friday is College Shirt Day! I also want to wish you and your family a happy, fun and safe Thanksgiving. I am very thankful to teach and have your child in my class. They are all such a joy!
Happy Thanksgiving!

50th day of School and Chick Fil A Night

Wednesday, November 7th was the 50th day of school!!!!!! To celebrate the 50th day students and teachers came dressed in 50's wear...we had rolled up jeans, white t-shirts, leather jackets, letterman jackets, jean jackets, scarfs in hair and around necks, slick back hair and even a poodle skirt! We also listened to 50's music (thanks to Mrs. McElroy for the cd) and did a few 50th day activities. We are halfway to 100th day!

Tonight was Chick Fil A DAY for Florence Hill. I ate dinner at Chick Fil A and saw a few students from class! It's always fun to see students outside the classroom. Thank you for coming out to support our school. Here are some pictures. Enjoy!

Pumpkins

Last week we measured our pumpkins shortest to tallest, measured how tall, how round, and counted how many seeds were in our pumpkins. We also talked about the word, hypothesis and made our own hypothesis about whether the pumpkin would sink or float in water. Take a look at our pumpkin activities...

We put our pumpkins in order from shortest to tallest.

We practiced the word "float" by standing on our tip toes.

We practiced the word "sink" by squating down low.

We tested our hypothesis and discovered that the pumpkins (no matter what the size) FLOAT!

We scooped out the pulp and seeds of our pumpkins and counted the seeds (by table group) using a 100s chart
