Apples

This week we had a great time learning, reading and writing about apples.

We brainstormed about apples on a circle map, organized our thoughts on a tree map and wrote four sentences about apples!

We also described our apples through adjectives, made an apple glyph, and graphed our apples in math.

Real Object Graph of our apples

Changing our real object graph into a picture graph.

Picture Graph of our apples using real object data.

Bar type Graph

We started the day by preparing our homemade applesauce and then enjoyed eating our applesauce for snack (see recipe below)! It made the room smell WONDERFUL!!! 18 students liked the applesauce and 2 students did not like it but they tasted it. We also traveled around the world with "How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World". We used google earth to travel to the different places from the story. We were worn out afterwards because we visited England, Italy, Jamaica, Sri Lanka, and Vermont. :)

Crock Pot Applesauce

3 ½ hours/25 min. prep

4 lbs tart apples, cored and sliced thin
½ cup of sugar
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice

1. Mix apples (about 12 cups) with cinnamon and sugar and put into crock pot.
2. Pour water and lemon juice over apples. Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.

Graphing, College Shirt Day

Last week we made real object shoe graphs and Skittles graphs. After graphing using the Skittles we then made a bar type graph to show same information. We also read different versions of The Three Little Pigs and graphed our favorite book.

Thursday was college shirt day!

Happy Birthday to our last September birthday!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Alliteration

We read different versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears last week. We graphed which book was our favorite. Dusty Locks and the Three Bears was by far the most favorite from the class!

We also tasted porridge on Friday and graphed our favorite flavor of porridge. Porridge with honey and cinnamon was the favorite. YUM YUM!

We enjoyed reading fiction books about bears but we also read non fiction books about bears. We brainstormed facts about bears on a circle map, organizing facts on a tree map and then wrote three sentences about bears.

This week we also learned about Alliteration and how it is different than rhyme. We read Animal Alphabet which was all about animal alliteration sentences. We also sorted rhyming and alliteration sentences. The class created sentences about themselves with a paper plate face. They turned out very cute!!!

Birthdays, Award, Twenty Frames and Brain Breaks

We've already celebrated two birthdays in our classroom. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

CONGRATS to our attendance winner from not missing a day of school so far. He won a monster truck from Pride Rally this morning. His name was picked out of a basket of ALL students who had perfect attendance so far for a chance to win a prize.

We made numbers using counters on a twenty frame. We practiced starting in the top left corner and filling it from left to right and top to bottom.

When we work REALLY hard and start to get restless we take a "brain break". Check out one of our brain breaks from today!
