Red Ribbon Week Days 3-5, pumpkins, more place value, and Chick-Fil A

Red Ribbon Week Days 3-5
Wednesday was hat day!

Thursday was neon day and Chick Fil A spirit night!

Friday was silly sock day!

All week we read books and wrote about pumpkins. We made a pumpkin glyph and pumpkin mystery word activity. We also worked on retelling stories. We read Big Pumpkin, Room on Broom and Winnie the Witch to practice retelling. We talked about the "five finger retell" and had a special guest (Winnie) who came and read to us then did a retell on a witches hat.

We also continued working on place value. We made a cute candy corn craft that included standard notation, written form, pictorial model, and expanded notation. We also used abaya.com in the computer lab to practice place value.

Mrs. Hay also had the opportunity to attend a student's cheerleading game on Saturday morning! GOOOO UPWARD!!!!

Our door for the Red Ribbon door decorating contest is "Our future is too bright to do drugs" and students are wearing GIANT sunglasses. It turned out very cute!

Skip Counting and Place Value

Last week we skip counted by 2s using our shoes and skip counted by 10s using the handprint wings of the bats. Check out the video below!

We've been working on place value in math. We used concrete manipulatives and moved to pictorial models. We are also working on representing the number in standard form (23), written form (twenty-three) and expanded notation (20+3=23). Students are also responsible for putting the numbers in order from greatest to least and least to greatest. Check out a few pictures from the classroom.
